Love Beyond Time

(The Outsiders #1)

My Very First Novel

Love Beyond Time was the very first book I ever wrote.  At this point in my writing career, it seems a little bit funny to say that.  But, while I was pregnant with my second son, I suddenly had this idea for a novel and I decided, with some encouragement from my husband, to sit down and write it.  The only problem? I had no idea how to write a book.

I’d been writing since I was in the fourth grade but I would call any of those attempts publishable.  But I was downright determined to make Love Beyond Time and the Outsiders happen.  So I sat down and through weeks and weeks of time, I wrote the book.

And then I brought it to my online critique group.  Oh boy. Lots of problems.  So many issues that I had officially sold and published a whole lot of other things before Love Beyond Time happened.  But I never gave up on it.  How could I? These characters have a story to tell and it deserved to be told.

I think of this series’ publication as a triumph of hard work and determination. I never gave up on these stories any more than the characters have given up on getting through quest and saving the world.  How can they? Its simply not an option for them.

If you’re a writer with an idea, don’t give up on it.  Sometimes its just about reworking something and finding the write group to do it with you.  – Rebecca Royce

My Thoughts:

Love Beyond Time is a FANTASTIC read, I couldn’t put it down! The plot is excellent and the story kept getting better and better as I turned the pages. I thought it very original and fresh with a lot of adventure.

You feel like wanting to know what will happen to those characters cause there’s an infinity of possibilities. And they’re all so captivating! The only thing that bothered me is that the characters are almost 30 years old, and even though they’re young for their species, they live in the real world, and most of the times react as teenagers. I must warn you this is NOT a YA book, it has a certain young adult atmosphere, but it’s a book for adults. Yes, that means explicit sex scenes but exactly the right amount of them.

It has amazing twists that you don’t expect and the solution to their problems are very real (keep in mind that it’s a fantasy book). I’m so happy this is the first of the series, cause I can’t wait to read the next one already! Be aware, my dear readers: you won’t be able to read this book and not want to read the rest of the series!

  2. Rebecca, I understand the want to publish that first book, even with other stories contracted before, as you know. I want to learn so much now so that I can go back to that story and rework it to get it out there.

Thanks for the review! I’m actually reading Love Beyond Time right now. 🙂
